Harrison High:

Here’s what stood out about this routine:

• They open with a TON of energy.  They’re moving all over the floor and doing it with precision!
• The 3 baskets look great!
• The 3-to-fulls coming to the front just punch the audience -and judges- right in the face*.  Great effect!
• The squad tumbling sequence is loaded!  The toe-backs are super clean and the backhandspring-tucks just punctuate things. Simply awesome.
• The transitions into the stunts look really clean and the following stunts are solid.  They use just enough flair to make the stunts stand out without sacrificing quality.
• The cheer looks great.  The level changes are sharp and the pyramid is executed with the same precision.
• Did I count 6 fulls?
• The jump sequence is TIGHT! Love it!
• The dance, like the opening, has soooo much going on! The level changes and formations are flat out hyperactive! That dance kicks!

*-trust me, it’s a good thing!

Ola High:

Here’s what stood out about this routine:

• Love the opening!! The 3-to-fulls, kick double basket and ripple tumbling all make for a fantastic visual!!
• Check out their cheer.  The stunts start with some rock-solid heel stretches and proceed to move through some great transitions! The words are perfect. You can hear the whole crowd saying “WE ARE OLA!”
• The pyramid has some equally great transitions.  It’s switching and spinning all over the place! Keeps the pace of the routine with the perfect blend of cleanliness and flash.
• The squad tumbling pattern that leads into the running tumbling is a great visual.
• The running tumbling is SUPER high energy. There is so much going on and the formations just add to the excitement.
• The stunt sequence is another set of rock-solid stunt and body positions.  The whole sequence is MONEY!
• The dance just looks like fun and the girls show it!

Here’s what stood out about this routine:

• The opening tumbling is NICE! Love the front-walkover-to-punch-front, the squad backhandspring-tucks and the double-backhandspring tuck transition.
• The stunt body positions look nice and clean.  The powerpress-to-scale in the front is a nice touch!
• Keep a close eye on the edges of the screen.  There are 5 fulls in this routine!
• The ripple cheer stunt is perfectly timed and works great with the words of the cheer.
• The end of the dance just flat.out.ROCKS! Love it!
• The ball-up in the final pyramid is a risky move that was performed very well! It added a nice bit of flair to the pyramid and the overall performance.
• The mom that was going NUTS through the whole routine was simply awesome! All parents should get that fired up!

Here’s what stood out about this routine:

• They are doing A LOT with few athletes.  They make 12 look like 20!
• The opening sequence is just big.  There are things happening all over the floor including  squad handspring tucks, two crossing cartwheel fulls and one 2-to-full right down the middle.
• They put up 3 clean stunts with lots of flash, fun transitions and clean body positions.
• Their cheer is fantastic with great level/line changes and incorporation including a great basket.
• They had some struggles in the pyramid that they fight like crazy to save.  Way to make it hit!
• This team just continues to get progressively better each week!!

• Clean squad tumbling, both the toe-touch tuck and the roundoff tucks.
• Four clean stunt groups with solid body positions.
• Clean transitions between skills.
• Love the arabian in the middle of the running tumbling.  This is a strong tumbling team for their division!
• Love the “Beautiful People” dance.  It looks great and has a different enough feel to really stand out!
• Overall this was a really impressive routine in the AAA division.

Here’s what stood out about this routine:

• Nice opening with the kick-double basket, seven cartwheel-tucks and the five roundoff-handspring fulls coming to the front
• Super clean jump sequences.
• I love the cartwheel transition into the stunts.
• The stunt sequence showcases some great body position control.
• 5 Single Base stunt groups at hands.
• Nice high cheer basket.
• 7 fulls total, including two coming right down the front.
• 2 Kick double baskets into a great transitional pyramid.

Grayson High:

Here’s what stood out about this routine:

• Clean transitions.  They put on a CLINIC with their transitions.  They move so well into and out of positions.
• Love their tumbling/jumps arrangement in the opening. They open with squad backhandspring tucks then pike tucks finishing with most of the squad doing triple toe-backs
• MONSTER single base stunts hitting all kinds of body positions, even while rotating
• They throw a ton of tumbling with a seemingly endless amount of fulls.  This is accomplished with a great mix of timing, spacing and formations.
• Great variety in their cheer with tumbling, motions and line/level changes.
• Their pyramid is great, all the swinging and tic-tocs look great!
• The dance has a ton of energy and some nice levels that add to the overall effect.
• That final pyramid with the toss toe-touches into arabesque that rotates to heel stretches looks so clean and easy.

Johns Creek:

Here’s what stood out about this routine:

• The open. Enough said. Seriously, this open is SICK SICK SICK!! I love it. The music is bang-on.  The ripple full-up-retakes, the synchronized cartwheel transtitions, leading into….
• ROCK.SOLID.STUNTS! The body positions are almost flawless.  The bases are immovable objects. They make difficult skills seem easy. Other squads should take notes.  THIS is how stunts should look.
• They have super clean squad tumbling with a nice transition from a jump sequence into ripple double-backhandspring-fulls.
• They have a real simple cheer that is, again, very clean.  The ripple baskets, especially the kick-doubles, look great and you don’t lose the words while they’re being thrown.
• They throw fulls all over the place.  I think I lost count. Is it 8?
• The do more full up/down, twisting and turning in their pyramid sequence.  It would be amazing on its own with all that movement.  However, the fact that they do all that moving and manage to stay synchronized? Very impressive! It’s just a fun sequence with a great look and a strong finish.
• I loved their dance. It’s got some different moves in it and things that make it really “pop.” They finish on a very strong note, which we all know can add anywhere from 5 to 10 extra points to your score.

Peachtree Ridge:

Here’s what stood out about this routine:

• The opening is super clean.  It is really crisp with nearly everyone hitting 3-toe-touches-to-tucks.
• They put up 5 TRUE coed stunts.  There’s not a lot of variety right now but so far they’re the only squad I’ve seen that is doing exclusively coed stunting. It’s just a bonus that they’re hitting them clean, including the double full downs.
• They throw a ton of layouts.  I’ll admit this is impressive only because it gives a taste of things to come.  How many of those are fulls that are being held in reserve for later in the season.  It’s also notable because there’s no other skill thrown, no handspring tucks, everyone throws at least a layout.  The final pass with all the front tumbling is a great way to end an impressive sequence.
• That kick-double basket is SICK!
• The second tumbling sequence, the one set to “Unbelievable,” fits the song well.  Hands down, that kid can tumble!  I wouldn’t mind seeing more of that kind of action.
• The slow-mo in the dance is awesome. The squad sells it perfectly and the music is great.  Done wrong and it could ruin the pace of the whole routine. As its performed now it ADDS energy.
• The final pyramid gets more and more difficult each week. Those blow-out transitions are nice and, as usual, everything is super clean.  There are a ton of spots to throw off the timing there but they manage to keep it all together without any noticeable bobbles.

Here’s what stood out to me about this routine:

• First, their open is really slick.  Some slight movement for the kick double basket but not enough to ruin the effect. Following that up with the 4 roundoff fulls to the front really kicked things into high gear right from the opening.
• They are WICKED clean. The transitions are super crisp, almost every move is in unison.  This is probably one of the most important things for a GHSA squad.  They made the judges job easy by keeping everything so clean.
• They had squad double-toe-touch-tucks.
• They threw five one double-backhandspring-fulls…and 4 double handspring tucks. (edit: thanks to cheercheercheer1 for the correction)
• I really dug the “magic fingers” effect leading into their stunt sequence.  It was a nice little addition that went great with the music.  Those kind of flourishes can really go either way for a team. In this instance I think it was just subtle enough to be perfect.
• Where do I even begin to talk about their stunts?  Nearly flawless body positions from the flyers, super clean transitions and rock solid bases.  Hardly any movement at all and almost perfectly synchronized flyers.  They practically put on a stunt clinic with this performance!!
• I dislike Double-9s just as a rule.  They are one of my least favorite jumps.  I’m almost positive (I’ve watched 3 times now) that I saw Northgate throw Double-9s and they made them look GOOD. That just makes no sense.
• The dance is good, the finish is better.  The final formation really just “pops” and is a great way to end a spectacular routine.  Great job Northgate!
